Starting and running your own business at times can be completely overwhelming.

There are so many things to think about, decisions to be made and actions to be taken. It’s enough to make you want to scream,

I’M NOT PLAYING ANYMORE!!!

take your ball and go home.

So what’s the solution this inevitable entrepreneurial overload?

Pick one thing.

I can hear some of you saying I can’t do that. How could I pick? I have 50 things on my list and they all need to get done NOW!

I know it can sound simplistic or even counterintuitive but narrowing your focus to one thing is actually the most effective strategy for moving forward across the board while keeping you sane as you do it.

In any given moment, it’s impossible to do more than one thing at a time – but that doesn’t stop us from trying. We split our focus and pat ourselves on the back for “multi-tasking” and “being productive” but usually what we’re really doing is 10 things at 10% capacity.

Imagine the freedom you would feel if you only had one thing to deal with?

Write a list of all the things you feel you need to do and just pick one thing off the list and get to work.

Remember only one.

I would recommend picking the one that is taking up the most emotional space in your life and start there. Next, break that task down into bite-size items. For example, if you want to work on your marketing, break that down further and maybe choose to focus only  on your website. Then from there, break it down even further to focusing on only one page and start there.

Just like with your clients, small, realistic, achievable goals will help you build momentum AND make you feel like you are accomplishing something.

What one thing will you pick?
